<p><b>Ghat</b> (<a href="Tamazight" class="mw-redirect" title="Tamazight">tamazight</a> ⵖⴰⵜ <i>Ɣat</i>, <a href="Arabische_Sprache" title="Arabische Sprache">arabisch</a> <bdo dir="ltr"><bdi dir="rtl" lang="ar" class="arabic spanAr" style="unicode-bidi:isolate;font-size:120%;">غات</bdi></bdo>, <a href="DIN_31635" title="DIN 31635">DMG</a> <i><span lang="ar-Latn" style="font-style:italic">Ġāt</span></i>) ist ein Ort in <a href="Libyen" title="Libyen">Libyen</a>. Er liegt im <a href="Munizip_Ghat" title="Munizip Ghat">gleichnamigen Munizip</a> im Südwesten des <a href="Fessan" title="Fessan">Fessan</a> nahe der Grenze zu <a href="Algerien" title="Algerien">Algerien</a>.
</p>
<p>Ghat zählte 2017 etwa 15000 Einwohner und setzte sich aus verschiedenen Ethnien zusammen, während ihre Schwesterstadt Al Barakat (auch Barkat), 8 km südlich davon, auch etwa 15000 Einwohner zählte, aber mehrheitlich von <a href="Tuareg" title="Tuareg">Tuareg</a> der Volksgruppe der <a href="Kel_Ajjer" title="Kel Ajjer">Kel Ajjer</a> bewohnt ist.<sup id="cite_ref-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-1"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
</p><p>Der Ort war lange eine Station des <a href="Transsaharahandel" title="Transsaharahandel">Transsaharahandels</a>. Er war auch ein wichtiges Handwerkszentrum, wobei vor allem die Schmiedewerkstätten mit ihren <a href="Schwert" title="Schwert">Schwertern</a> große Bedeutung hatten. Dennoch gibt es schriftliche Überlieferungen erst seit der Machtübernahme durch die <a href="Osmanisches_Reich" title="Osmanisches Reich">Osmanen</a> in der Mitte des <a href="19._Jahrhundert" title="19. Jahrhundert">19. Jahrhunderts</a>. Durch seine abgelegene Lage befand sich Ghat kaum im Blickpunkt der Machthaber in <a href="Tripolis" title="Tripolis">Tripolis</a>. Auch die <a href="Italien" title="Italien">Italiener</a> unterwarfen den Ort erst <a href="1930" title="1930">1930</a>. Nach der <a href="Revolution" title="Revolution">Revolution</a> in Libyen verließen die 12.000 Einwohner im Jahr 1980 die Altstadt, nachdem die libysche Regierung Neubauten mit einer guten Wasserversorgung hatte errichten lassen. Nach dem Ausbruch des <a href="B%C3%BCrgerkrieg_in_Libyen_seit_2014" title="Bürgerkrieg in Libyen seit 2014">Bürgerkrieges in Libyen 2014</a> entwickelte sich Ghat zum Zentrum eines de facto eigenständigen Tuareg-Staates im Südwesten Libyens.
</p><p>Ghat diente oftmals als Ausgangspunkt für Reisen in die Berg- und Wüstenregion <a href="Tadrart_Acacus" title="Tadrart Acacus">Akkakus</a>, in der sich zahlreiche <a href="Felsbild" title="Felsbild">Felszeichnungen</a> sowie der Mumien-Fundort <a href="Uan_Muhuggiag" title="Uan Muhuggiag">Uan Muhuggiag</a> finden.<sup id="cite_ref-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-2"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>2<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>
